Asume the Best of Opposing Opinions

I let drop a suggestion a couple of posts back that could use a bit of explaining.  To quote, "Learn to separate ideas from people when evaluating them, and learn to integrate ideas with people when explaining them."

Although I very very briefly touched on the first part of that statement when I talked about processing other people's ideas, I've never qualified what I mean by the second part, so let's talk about that.

Media as Communication: Gravity Falls

So, I started writing a post about axioms of knowledge and the correct way to view disagreements and opposing viewpoints on life.  But... instead I did some programming and watched Gravity Falls, which is quickly becoming a major time sink for me.  So guess what I'm actually going to be talking about tonight?

Sharing Ideas isn't Free

As part of the class assignment that I maintain this blog, I'm required to write an About Me post; and for the longest time I've been putting it off both because I wasn't sure how interesting it would be to people and because I wasn't completely sure I saw the point in it.

However, I do need to write it at some point, so that might as well be now.  In the interest of staying somewhat on topic, I'd like to try and explain why I maintain so many blogs and just what I hope to accomplish when I talk about esoteric topics like this.  I do want to maintain a focus on communication itself and what my perspective is on it, but this will be a bit more introspective than I usually write, so if you've somehow managed to build this view of me as some emotionless bastion of rationality, sorry in advance.

'Why' and 'How' are More Important than 'What'

Disclaimer: I apologize if this post seems to be a bit off the blog topic.  I'm a big believer in the philosophy that nothing is simple, and in order to understand how something works, you often need to break it down into much more basic parts.  As such, this particular post may not be your cup of tea.  I've attempted to bring it more in line with the actual topic by jumping back into the original discussion of art, although I know there are likely to be several people reading this who disagree with me when I say that art is purely communicative.  And that's fine; I'm not here to debate on that.

Building Trust

There is something rather presumptuous about keeping a blog on communication concepts as a college sophomore while in the act of taking a communications course.  There is something equally presumptuous about using meta references and self degradation under the assumption that acknowledging hubris excuses it.  Look, I did it again!  We can keep this up all day long.
